Now I know that this is a time of great instability for all of us, what with the Diocese reorganising us into the new Pastoral Areas and the impending departure of luvly-jubbly-choochy-face Fr Simon to our neighbourinos over in Woodchurch. But remember, be loyal to your parish community, 'cos your parish community loves you. Forget any artificial re-drawing of the boundary lines, all you have to remember is that if we stand firm as a parish, all the other stuff will follow. Rather like a pebble dropped into a pond, the benefits of our unity will be felt way beyond our own church.
Anyway, serious message over let's have a larf!
There is, as they say, many a true word...

How stramge that the first posting about Fr Simon's leaving would be so flippant. Perhaps it was meant to be a bit controversial? I have never seen the 'choochy' side of Fr Simon, in fact I have always found him a bit of a challenge, but a challenge it was always worth turning up on Sunday morning for, and I think the parish has strengthened as a community in the time he has been here. If some people decide to follow him down to St Michael's then perhaps this is because he fulfills a particular need in their spiritual life? I belong to this parish, changing boundaries or otherwise, and support it when I can. But the parish is about people not buildings and if I go to St Michael's, Our Lady's or any other church occasionally then perhaps that's a healthier sort of unity.
Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for your comments. The clue was actually in the title. We are going through a period of transition and that is difficult for people on a number of levels. Some of us deal with the difficulties of transition through humour, some of us go into a sulk, some of us write angry letters to our local MP and others carry on, seemingly indifferent. That is all down to the beautiful individuality that God has gifted us with. You must, of course, worship in the place that you feel most comfortable, and that may occasionally change with circumstances. But sometimes people can respond with a knee-jerk reaction to events and make a move which they later regret. The parish is not about buildings, you are right, and those who worked hard to build our parish from nothing are testament to that. But as humans, we all need support and encouragement and we find that in the strength of our relationships with each other and some level of commitment to a shared cause. I am sorry that the tone of the post seems to have upset you, that was not the intention. I am, however, glad that you have expressed your commitment to Holy Family.
God Bless
